In a world where fashion trends seem to change faster than we can keep up, it's important to remember the timeless value of modesty in our attire. As Christians, our clothing choices should reflect our faith and respect for ourselves and others.
The Bible is plain on the topic of modesty. In 1 Timothy 2:9
It says "...that women adorn themselves in modest apparel "
So there's no doubt He wants us to be modesty.
But what is modesty? It seems like every Christian has a different outlook on modesty. Some say: "It's all about the heart. You can wear anything and everything. God looks at the heart and sees you are modest in your heart."
Others may say, "What is on the outside will reflect what's on the inside. So if you aren't modest in attire. Then you have a heart problem."
Now if you do believe in modesty. What are the guidelines?
Who determines what is modest and what is not?
Some say you can't show your knees. Some say, you can't show your thighs. Some say, "a little cleavage is fine." Others say, "keep those neck lines high!" I think attitude has a lot to do with modesty.
If you are wearing something that covers everything, but you have a flirty attuite. Then you are not being modest.
But the outward appearance is important too. Man looks on the outward. So our clothing needs to be respectful and not clothing that causes our brothers and sisters in Christ to fall.
I know that a lot of people say, "Well that's his fault. What I wear is my business. He just can stop being so lustful. It's his problem. Not mine."
That kind of attitude is wrong. Paul said he wouldn't even eat meat if it caused his brother to fall. (1 Cor 8:13) "Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend."
So, that verse makes it sound like it's very important to think of others when deciding what we do. Including, what we wear.
In conclusion: what you wear matters to God. Pray about this.
Seek the Lord's guidance.
I personally don't want to show off my shape (wearing tight leggings) I want my tops to cover my top. I want my hemline to be below the knees. And my neckline to be high as a normal t-shirt.
Those are my guidelines. Even when I go swimming. I wear long swim pants and a swim t-shirt. I believe we need to be modest in every place and setting.
This is how I feel I need to dress. This is my walk with the Lord. All I ask from Christians is that they seek God on this. Ask and listen to what the Holy Ghost wants you to wear. Cause remember, we're supposed to be promoting Him.
